Miriam O’Callaghan grew up in the town of Tullamore. She worked for the personnel, recruitment and administration department and later in hospital management, for the Midland Health Board. Her time as an international camogie player in the Irish team is recalled. Later she became a referee, and later still was elected President of the Irish Camogie Association. She also found time in her busy life to become involved in politics.
