Vera Crofton grew up in Mill Road with her grandparents. Her father died while she was a young child. She speaks about the financial difficulties her mother endured in those early days. Her mother’s closest friend was killed by the wartime bombing of the North Strand and immediately afterwards she went to England to help in the war effort. Finally, Vera speaks about village life in Saggart in the fifties and sixties.
